Privacy policy
In short: dailybrief has no accounts, no sign-up forms and no advertising, and uses Google Analytics to count visits (switch it off any time under Cookie settings). We do not sell or share personal information. The few things that do touch your data are listed below so you can see exactly what happens when you visit.
Who we are
dailybrief ("we", "us") is a free daily briefing on generative AI, published at https://www.dhaneesh.in and operated by Dhaneesh T B. We are the data controller for the limited processing described here. Contact: dhaneeshtnair@gmail.com.
What we collect, and why
| What | Why | Who handles it |
|---|---|---|
| Standard request data when your browser loads a page: IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, date and time. | To deliver the website, keep it secure and prevent abuse. Legal basis (where GDPR applies): our legitimate interest in running a secure website. | Our hosting provider, Vercel Inc., which keeps short-lived server logs under its own policy. |
| Google Analytics usage data: pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser, how you arrived, using the cookies listed on our Cookies page. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. | To understand and improve the site. Legal basis: in the EU/EEA, UK and Switzerland, your consent (analytics cookies are off until you click Accept); elsewhere, our legitimate interest in measuring use of the site, and you can switch it off at any time with Decline under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. | Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd as our processor (Google signals and advertising features are switched off). |
| Your email address and message, only if you write to us. | To reply and keep a record of the request. Legal basis: legitimate interest, or steps you asked us to take. | Us, through our email provider. |
We do not ask for, and do not knowingly collect, special categories of data (such as health or religious beliefs), payment details or government identifiers.
Third-party content on our pages
- Fonts. Our typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. Your browser connects to Google's servers, which receive your IP address and browser details. See Google's privacy policy.
- Article images. Story images are small copies we store and serve from our own site, so publishers do not receive your IP address. If a copy is not available, the image loads directly from the publisher's website instead, and we tell your browser not to send the page address (referrer) with that request.
- Links. Every story links to its original publisher. Once you follow a link, that website's own privacy policy applies.
- Podcast apps. If you subscribe through Apple Podcasts, Spotify or another app, that app's privacy policy applies to your use of it.
Information kept only in your browser
We store a few preferences in your browser's local storage: your colour theme, whether you chose the News reader or the Podcast, and your quiz answers and scores. They never leave your device and are not sent to us. Details are on our Cookies page; you can delete them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
How content is made
Summaries, the quiz and the audio are prepared automatically from publishers' public text using AI services (Anthropic for writing and ElevenLabs for voices). No information about visitors is sent to these services.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell, rent or share personal information for advertising, and we do not use it for profiling or automated decisions about you. We share it only with the service providers named above, to run the site, or when the law requires it.
International transfers
Our providers operate worldwide, so information may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent mechanisms used by those providers.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept only for the periods set by our hosting provider. Google Analytics data is deleted automatically after the retention period set in our Google Analytics account (no longer than 14 months). Emails are kept as long as needed to deal with your request and then deleted, normally within 24 months.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Depending on your location you may have specific rights under laws such as:
- EU, EEA and UK (GDPR / UK GDPR): access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
- California and other US states (CCPA/CPRA and similar): the right to know, delete and correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing. We do not sell or share personal information, and we honour Global Privacy Control signals.
- India (Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023): access, correction, erasure, grievance redressal and nomination.
- Brazil (LGPD), Canada (PIPEDA), Australia (Privacy Act), Singapore (PDPA) and other privacy laws, as they apply to you.
To make a request, email dhaneeshtnair@gmail.com. We will reply within 30 days and will not treat you differently for using your rights. We may ask you to confirm your identity before acting on a request. Because we hold so little information, there is often nothing to return.
Grievance contact
Privacy questions and complaints, including grievances under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act: Dhaneesh T B, dhaneeshtnair@gmail.com.
Children
dailybrief is a general-audience news site for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served only over encrypted HTTPS, has no logins to compromise and stores no visitor databases. To report a security issue, see our Contact page.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle information, for example by adding a newsletter, we will update this page and the date above before the change takes effect.
